No justice

The whole movie I'm grinding my teeth waiting for the big payback. Justice is served and the bad guys get beat up and end up in jail. It seemed like they ran out of film and everyone just has to imagine what happened to the bad guys.

The Rambo and Reacher type plot lines were really fun, and I love how capable and smart the good guys were.

The point where I realized they'd actually done some research was when the policeman was standing with his thumbs hooked into his bulletproof vest. That's a way for the policeman to have their hands up and in ready position without looking aggressive.

From a self-defence point of view he's pretty amazing and shows remarkable restraint. But with that restraint, I was really really looking for the payoff of the bad guys getting their butts kicked and ending up in jail, but that never happened.

Diet Jack Reacher

I saw the preview for this on Twitter/X and was hooked. It looked great. It had good lead characters and an interesting start but the motivation of the villains was confusing and the ending was badly fumbled. Ultimately it couldn't deliver on the promise that was made to the audience at the beginning. I genuinely felt let down at the end because the first half was so good. The blame for that has to sit with the production team. Someone made the choice to deliberately neuter the action and avoid the potential for a relationship between the two protagonists.

That said, I liked the two lead actors and I'll definitely look at anything they're in.

Overlong and weak ending

Starts strong, likeable main character and a good villain.

The plot is a bit convoluted and you could cut out 30 minutes without losing anything important.

The biggest downside for me is the ending, it seems like they did not know how to end it and just throw in some stuff to wrap it up during the supposed climax. It lacks the impact that it needed to deliver satisfaction for the viewer. I can't explain more without spoiling it but it's underwhelming.

On a positive note the main character is likeable, if a bit one note, and the main villain does a god job of making you hate him.

The action scenes are okay, nothing amazing but watchable.

To summarise, I would not recommend this over many others that came before and did it better, but if you have 2 hours to kill and have watched the many other films with the same premise and want to watch another one, give it a go, it's on the bottom of the genre but it's passable.
