Plot summary

Tommie is the absolute loser in his home district of Cologne-Kalk: no money, no apartment of his own, no girlfriend. In the exhaust workshop where he toils, the foreman is constantly angry with him. But Tommie is in a great mood: The video freak dreams enthusiastically through the fantasy world of film art, preferably with the bust sex star Gianna S. in the leading role. Tommie collects exhaust pipes. When he steals a particularly capital specimen from Jupp's swank Mercedes, he gets into real trouble. He has no choice but to return the exhaust to Jupp, but his deadly ultimatum of procuring a case of the rare beer brand "Ramsdorfer Kölsch" by seven o'clock in the evening proves to be insanely difficult. Because at the very same time, "Gianna S." is expected in town...

In one sentence the film is rubbish

As far as I have heard, this is a German cult film, now if something like this is already considered a cult then I am in favor of us deleting our country. The west will be given to France, the east to Poland. Northern Germany will become the new Denmark. Again and again I give myself a jerk and let myself go to Comedies 1 and after less than three minutes I regret it, as always this film was a very special disappointment because it is quite limp on a technical basis but the content actually gave me a headache. I'm 17 years too old and 40 IQ points too intelligent for this stupid pee-kaka-puke humor. The main character is an unsympathetic antisocial maniac and a criminal. He's also caused so much damage and destruction throughout the film that I really wonder why he doesn't end up in jail and why the family bothered with him in the first place. The German philistine life that is this pastiche is too superficial and too boring to tell that it does not deserve the title film. And once again you can see that the FSK had absolutely no idea what it was doing because this film is clearly too dirty and vulgar for people under twelve to watch it in itself. Whether you find Tom Gerhardt funny is an open question, but getting him in three copies and depending on the character you don't know whether you should laugh or cry angrily or shoot at the TV angrily is a question for another time. It is without a doubt a bad movie, thankfully not one of the worst movies of my life but definitely the protagonist is one of the worst characters of all time Who is Jar-Jar Bings on crack and speed at the same time, has a crazy Assi language for them would laugh at him himself, use so many euphemisms and compare that you could fill a whole dictionary with it and speak such a crazy Assi-German that even Erkan and Stefan tell him to go down a level. The unbearable thing about the film, however, is clearly its destructive streak, which is portrayed as personable and lovable in this film and apparently even resonates with the female gender. My suspension of disbelief has never been abused so harshly. In addition, it is difficult for me to perceive a film as lust because so much goes to the dogs because at the end of the film 99% of the cast have a lot of damage both financially and physically and that is unjustified. Sometimes I feel sorry for the actors, a few others should have known what they are committed to, but otherwise I wish the plague on many of them

Not even half normal

In case your german is not up to the task, my summary line above is playing into the title of the movie: so no pun intended. And of course humor is in the eye of the beholder. So you may find this actually funny and not offensive. Or the other way around - I personally would understand the offended part to a degree.

A lot has changed since the movie was made. And yes you can hide .. I mean explain most of the humor with ... well just that. That it is not meant to be truthful, but just kidding. The thing is: the quality of the jokes is subpar at best. The way it starts will inform what you will make with the rest of it.

A baby born, with the face of our protagonist ... kind of like the Wayans movie where the short criminal pretended to be a baby. But even more ridiculous if that is even possible.

That said, it gets worse after that. Our main character steps into ... excrement. Not sure how I should phrase it otherwise. He doesn't notice (like he notices anything in the movie - forgetaboutit) and walks into a store ... the female employe that works is clearly upset when she sees the tracks ... but only until she meets our "hero". For some reason she seems to be smitten by him. Hey I didn't get it either - but you know: it's a comedy - so there's that.

Again, if you really set the bar low, you may be able to find something funny here. I personally was not able to - the main character who is a comedian had a good act going. As a "Hausmeister" - a more apt role than the one he is playing here. The gullible, not to intelligent Dude - or whatever you would call him.

I'd say not worth your time - but as I also said before: we have different taste and that is a good thing in the end ... and who am I to tell you what good taste is and that it does not exist here? Maybe you are not looking for that ... you've been warned.

Very low and stupid

"Voll normaaal" is a German movie from 1994 and it features Tom Gerhardt playing the main character. Gerhardt is an actor who was certainly much more famous in the 1990s and early 2000s here in Germany than he is today. And honestly, looking at what he did her, as writer and lead actor, his fading popularity is probably a good thing. This film runs for approximately 90 minutes and features a handful of actors that are still fairly famous today, almost a quarter of a century later. These would be Hilmi Sözer, Veronica Ferres, Uwe Fellensiek, Katja Flint and Rolf Zacher. But if you know a bit about German film, you will also recognize immediately that these people are not known because of their great range, but because of their charisma and recognition value instead. There are no strong actors in here. Then again, this is a film that has a script with which it is impossible to give great (or even good) performances at all.

It is the story of a likable (not really), but pretty dumb mechanic who gets involved innocently with criminal (and very unlikable) forces, but thanks to his friend, his humor and his general approach to life he masters one difficult situation after the next and the director Ralf Huettner ("Vincent will Meer") clearly wants us to cheer for Gerhardt's character. But why would you? Maybe only if you are intellectually on the same level as the protagonist. In any case, Hoettner has done better on several occasions in his career and this one here is definitely a contender for worst work of his body of work. i wish I could say the same about Gerhardt, but his character here is so over-used and unfunny that it is almost painful to watch. And lets be honest, his shtick is almost always the same. The saddest thing about this film, however, is that two sequels followed and maybe there will even be more as the third entry to this garbage franchise was done only five years ago. I hope not. This film is evidence that klamauk comedies did not only exist in the 1970s (Carrell, Richter, Roberts) or 1980s (Gottschalk, Krüger), but that they also existed in the 1990s. A questionable achievement and there is really no reason for Gerhardt to be proud of it. Major thumbs down from me. Stay far far away from this one. It is as loud as it is annoying and unfunny.
